It is often said that Arizona is the best state in the United States to retire, but where in Arizona exactly? Based on feedback from retirees, healthcare and entertainment opportunities, and weather, Niche.com came up with a list detailing the best places to retire in Arizona.

  1. Catalina Foothills

Located in Pima County, a couple of miles north of Tucson, Catalina Foothills earned the top spot in Niche.com’s 2017 Best Places to Retire list. This census-designated place is situated along the foothills of the scenic Santa Catalina Mountains (hence the name). It is home to approximately 50,900 people.

Residents love Catalina Foothills’ lively suburban area and family-friendly community spaces. Aside from being a great place to live for retirees, Catalina Foothills would also do well for families with school-age children, as the town is home to several distinguished schools.

  2. Oro Valley

Just north of Catalina Foothills, the suburban town of Oro Valley is highly lauded for its proximity to Tucson, its wealth of housing opportunities, and abundance of outdoor recreation activities. It’s one of the best places for retirees who are looking to explore a more active retirement lifestyle. There are currently around 41,900 residents living in Oro Valley.

  3. Cienega Springs

Located in La Paz County, Cienega Springs is a small, tight-knit, census-designated community of less than 1,800 residents. 4. Wickenburg

Largely located within Maricopa County (with a portion located in Yavapai County), the town of Wickenburg is described as a quintessential American Cowboy town. It is currently home to around 6,300 residents based on the latest population estimates.

Arts and culture aside, Wickenburg is home to several world-renowned medical centers and assisted living facilities. Add parks, a vibrant downtown district, shopping, and proximity to outdoor recreation, and it’s easy to see why Wickenburg is considered a great place to retire.
